1872<$10>--Cleaned--ANACS. AU55 Details. The bright yellow surfaces show only diffused mint luster as a result of cleaning. Myriad light abrasions are seen under a loupe, evidence of light circulation, but there are no major impairments. To quote from the Garrett-Guth gold reference, "The 1872 eagle is a great low-mintage rarity with a well-established reputation in a series that is replete with some of the condition rarities in all of U.S. numismatics." Despite the attempt at improvement, much pleasing detail remains. The strike is decent, with softness noted chiefly on the hair above Liberty's ear and on the fletchings. From a mintage of only 1,620 business strikes.
