In Mint State, however, the 1871-S is rare, as is the case with most 1866 to 1872 issues. This date range excludes the most significant shipwreck recoveries, and also pre-dates large-scale gold exports overseas. This expectedly abraded example has unbroken luster and rich canary-gold toning.
