1871 S$1 Dollar, Judd-1131, Pollock-1267,
1871 S$1 Dollar, Judd-1131, Pollock-1267, R.7, PR67 Cameo NGC. James B. Longacre's Indian Princess design with starless obverse border, featuring Liberty seated and wearing an Indian headdress, one hand resting on a globe, the other holding a Liberty Pole, with conjoined flags behind. The reverse is the regular issue for Liberty Seated Dollars. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. These beautiful patterns were sold as part of complete sets from the Half Dime to the Silver Dollar, apparently being executed by chief engraver William Barber since Longacre had died two years earlier. There are six metallic/edge combinations, for the Silver Dollars of this design, with no more than five or six specimens known of any combination. The aluminum pieces are the rarest of the Indian Princess Silver Dollar patterns, being a solid R.7 in the both the reeded edge (Judd-1130) and plain edge varieties. It would hardly be a stretch to proclaim this magnificent specimen as the finest known Judd-1131. Aluminum patterns from this era are susceptible to a variety of problems, including planchet streaking, white spotting, and carbon damage. Offered here is a peerless, meticulously preserved representative with glassy reflectivity in the fields and a total absence of unsightly carbon or hairlines. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
