1871 H10C PR67 NGC. Like the following two issues, the proof 1871 undoubtedly witnessed a not insignificant degree of melting after the Mint Act of February 12, 1873 abolished the Half Dime. The present survivor is originally and carefully preserved with rich antique-copper toning throughout. Direct angles, however, reveal mottled cobalt and golden undertones, as well as much of the uniformly brilliant finish. The sharply struck features are free of distracting handling marks, but we do note a well concealed spot in the reverse denticles just before 12 o'clock. This Condition Census Superb Gem shares the PR67 grade level with only one other coin at NGC and another specimen at PCGS. Neither grading service has yet to see a single example finer (1/03).From the Philip Kaufman Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
