AU53 Details.</B></I> The 1871-CC dollar has a paltry mintage of only 1,376 pieces. Again, like the 1870-CC, it appears that a large number relative to the mintage were set aside and have survived to date. That statement, of course, must be understood in the context of Carson City coinage, the Seated dollar series, and the actual number of coins we are speaking of. Probably no more than 30 examples are known today in the various AU grades with a half dozen or fewer pieces in mint condition. This piece has obviously hairlined surfaces whose effect is subdued somewhat by the light reddish-golden toning seen over each side. Several medium to larger-sized marks are scattered over the obverse, primarily in the right field and in the date area.
