<B>1871-CC $20 AU53 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 1-A. While the 1871-CC will always live in the shadows of the legendary 1870-CC twenty, it is a rarity in its own right. Only 17,387 pieces were struck and, like the '70-CC, apparently most examples were placed into circulation and they stayed there. Only 200-250 coins are believed known today in all grades. In the various AU grades it is reliably estimated that only 45-55 pieces are extant today. This is an impressive example that would be the centerpiece of almost any Carson City gold collection. Considerable mint luster remains around the devices, and the design motifs are surprisingly well defined on each side. Slight friction from brief circulation is seen in the fields and over the highpoints of the devices.
