<B>1871-CC $10 AU58 NGC.</B></I> An interesting piece from the second year of production for the Carson City Mint, this crisply struck example displays considerable radiance and a mildly prooflike appearance on the straw-gold obverse, though light friction and scattered marks dampen this effect. Aside from abrasions to the left of Liberty's lips and to the right of the date, most such marks are minor and inoffensive in isolation.<BR> The small mintage of 8,085 pieces that comprised this issue faced heavy circulation, and while Winter (2001) ranks the 1871-CC as one of the more available eagle issues of the 1870s, his Condition Census for that year lists only two Mint State pieces.
