1871-CC $10 AU55 PCGS. The 1871-CC is less famous than its 1870-CC predecessor, but is also a major rarity within the Motto Liberty eagle series. Only 8,085 pieces were struck, and these pieces were strictly regarded as bullion for at least another twenty years, when J. M. Clapp became the first numismatist to seriously collect contemporary gold series by date and mintmark. The 1871-CC spent years in circulation, and most were eventually melted. PCGS has graded examples as low as VG8, and has certified only one piece in Mint State. This nicely struck and lightly abraded piece possesses lovely orange-gold toning, and displays considerable remaining luster. A small strike-through at star 4 is mentioned for pedigree purposes. Population: 3 in 55, 2 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
