1796<1C> Draped Bust, Reverse of 1796 S-96, B-32, R.6--Rim Damage, Environmental Damage--NCS. VF Details. VG8 EAC. Compared to the typical 1796 Draped Bust cent, and especially to the typical example of this die variety, the surfaces are remarkably pleasing. Only the slightest corrosion is visible, hardly qualifying as environmental damage, in our opinion. However, several rim bruises are visible on both sides. This is an extremely important example, within the Condition Census, and sixth finest known according to Del Bland. The finest of the variety grades just Fine 12, according to EAC standards. Not only is this a rare variety with just 20 examples known, but it also appears at auction infrequently. Typically, collectors hold S-96 Large cents for a long time.
Ex: Denis W. Loring (5/1974); Dr Robert J. Shalowitz (7/1974); William R.T. Smith (8/1/1976). Envelope included.
