1871 $3 AU55 PCGS. With an eyebrow-raising mintage of 1,300 pieces, this issue is undoubtedly scarce. However, a surprising number of high grade examples were set aside at the time of issue or shortly thereafter, making this issue more available than one may expect. This piece shows the always-encountered semi-prooflike fields, created by die polishing. The surfaces are highly lustrous and display no offensive marks and lots of eye appeal. A great opportunity to own a very low mintage coin, and an attractive one to boot, at a reasonable price level. Population: 23 in 55, 75 finer (12/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
