1871 25C PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Briggs 1-A. Writing in 1991, Larry Briggs (The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters) states of this reverse die: "The folds of the scroll (carrying the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST') are heavily polished and are very faint or missing." Close inspection of the present near-Gem offers a clue as to why Mint personnel polished this die so extensively. A loupe reveals numerous small pimples throughout the reverse field that point to what appears to be extreme die rust. The coinage staff in Philadelphia undoubtedly polished the dies in an effort to remove this rust.
This is the single finest PCGS-certified proof 1871 Seated quarter with a Deep Cameo designation (3/07). Both sides present as untoned at most angles, but delicate champagne-lilac shadings are seen toward the denticles. Rich mint frost overlays the devices, all of which are fully brought up from an obviously powerful impression. The fields are deeply mirrored, and both sides are expectantly free of hairlines for the PR64 level of preservation.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
