<B>1871 12.5C Hawaii Wailuku AU53 NGC.</B></I> Medcalf 2TE-3, incorrectly designated as TE-2Aa by NGC. The reverse of this token is shared with 2TE-2, but the obverse differs. 2TE-2 has a starfish with a small center, while 2TE-3 has a starfish with a broad center. 2TE-3 is believed scarcer, corroborated by the fewer Heritage auction appearances of the variety. These pieces were struck by hand, but the present example is softly defined only the upper right obverse and opposite on the lower right reverse. A thin mark on the left (facing) leg of the star provides an identifier.
