1871 10C PR66 PCGS. While the 1871 is not particularly rare in an absolute sense, business strikes become progressively more difficult to locate the higher one progresses above the VF level. The rarity of MS65 and MS66 representatives should bring considerable date collector pressure to bear on this similarly graded proof. Whereas the obverse is essentially brilliant in finish, the reverse displays some mint frost over the devices that imparts a modest cameo appearance. The former side is tinged in golden-honey iridescence, the latter is untoned with a silver-white sheen. There is an interesting die crack (as struck) through the ribbon ends on the reverse, but grade-limiting handling marks are conspicuous by their absence. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (10/02).
