1871$1 MS65 NGC. Moderately overlaid in champagne-gold patina, the surfaces display frosty luster quality that becomes more vibrant at direct light angles. There are very few surface blemishes, as befits the assigned grade, and those that are present are mostly small and well scattered. In fact, the only identifying feature is as struck: a shallow planchet void in the lower obverse field after the date. The sharp strike is noteworthy for the type.
With slightly more than 1 million coins produced, it is little wonder that the 1871 is the most common Seated Dollar. While numerous coins were probably exported, enough were produced to guarantee that domestic economic channels would see their fair share toward the end of the 1870s. Nonetheless, the 1871 is a condition rarity in the finer Mint State grades. Population: 5 in 65, 1 finer (1/05). Lot:7389
