<B>1871 $1 Liberty Round 1 Dollar, BG-1204, High R.5, MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Robert B. Gray bought the jewelry manufacturing business of Antoine Louis Nouizillet in 1858 or 1859, including all of his dies, hubs, and punches. After making some trials from the old dies Gray sank new punches, signified by the initial G below the bust truncation. Gray in turn sold the business in 1871 to the Levison brothers, Jacob and Herman, who operated it as the California Jewelry Company.<BR> This late-period Gray piece shows brilliant prooflike yellow-gold surfaces that show just a few tiny flecks on the planchet, likely as made. The OLL in DOLLAR and the loop of the bow beneath are faint but distinguishable.
