This 1870s-1880s vintage T G and F Booth blue transferware ironstone double-handled covered jar is impressive! It seems too large to be a sugar bowl but too small to be a biscuit jar.<p>

It was made in the 1870s-1880s by the T. G. Booth (formerly Thomas G. Booth and Son) Ironstone Works which operated in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England, beginning in the mid-1870s. Thomas Gimbert Booth was the full name of the owner, after whom the factory was named. He advertised himself in 1880 as a "manufacturer of earthenware, also best ironstone china for hotels' and ships' use, suitable for home, foreign and colonial markets..." .<p>

This piece comes from the T.G. & F. Booth Parisian Granite ironstone blue transferware pattern of the 1880s. It has a twig, flower, and vine design overall. It measures 4 1/2 inches high, with a 3 1/2-inch top, and a 3 1/4-inch base. It is 7 inches wide at the handles. On the bottomit shows a crown with the words "Parisian Granite/Rosaline Pattern/T.G. AND F. BOOTH/ENGLAND."<p>

The jar is in excellent condition. The lid has what appears to be a manufacturing defect underneath which is covered on the sides by the glaze and does not appear when the lid is in place. Overall, the condition is very good considering the age and rarity of this piece.<p>

It would be an outstanding addition to any collection of old English ironstone!
