1870-S $5 AU50 PCGS. S-mint half eagles and eagles prior to 1878 are very scarce, yet most issues are highly collectible. The double eagle was the preferred West Coast gold denomination. This partly lustrous piece lacks obvious marks, and the strike is only soft on the eagle's neck and the curl beneath Liberty's ear. Population: 8 in 50, 9 finer (10/06).
Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection, Part IV (Bowers and Merena, 11/2000), lot 506, which realized $5,060; purchased from Stanley Kesselman, 4/1967.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
