1870-S 10C MS64 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint in 1870 p
1870-S 10C MS64 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint in 1870 produced several legendary rarities. The 1870-S half dime and three dollar are unique, while fewer than a dozen 1870-S dollars are known. In contrast, the 1870-S half dollar and double eagle are common, while examples of the date in other denominations range from semi-key to key. The 1870-S dime is one of those that can be considered a key. Its mintage of 50,000 pieces is the second lowest from the mint in the Seated dime series, and most have seen a good deal of circulation. Moreover, "Almost all are found with problems" (Brian Greer, 1992). This near-Gem piece is mostly white with an overlay of hazy toning. The fields, particularly on the obverse, are semi-prooflike. The design elements are generally well struck, though the head detail is a bit flat, as usual. Both sides are devoid of significant marks. Population: 5 in 64, 10 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
