1870$1> Standard Silver Dollar, Judd-996, Pollock-1127, High R.7--Double Struck Reverse--PR63 PCGS. Liberty is seated left with thirteen stars arranged around the periphery and the date 1870 below. Liberty's left hand holds an olive branch, and her right hand supports a shield over which is draped a scroll inscribed LIBERTY. A free standing Liberty pole is behind. On the reverse, the denomination 1 DOLLAR is centered within a wreath of corn and cotton. The word STANDARD is at the top. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This sharply struck specimen offers dappled golden-brown and cream-gray toning. A strong lens detects a few faint field hairlines. Many patterns were struck twice by the dies. What makes this piece unusual is that the reverse die rotated a few degrees counterclockwise between the two blows. STANDARD from the first strike exists as a ghostly impression to the right of the second, full strike.
