1870$1> MS63 PCGS. Although not deeply mirrored, the surfaces of this lovely business strike are fully reflective, perhaps a strike from proof dies. Both sides have translucent golden-brown toning. All of the design elements on each side of this example are sharply detailed. The obverse has a heavy die chip on top of Liberty's thigh, almost exactly at the center of the coin. On the reverse, several letters in the denomination and legend show minute doubling, as do some of the letters in the motto. This is different than the doubling described by Breen for his Doubled Die entry in the Complete Encyclopedia. The letters in DOL actually show minute tripling along the right side of each. A fine die crack joins the tops of ITED ST. Others join the tops of ES and AMERIC.
