1870 S$1 Dollar, Judd-1003, Pollock-1135, R.<p>7, PR61 PCGS.The obverse depicts a seated figure of Liberty facing left that is attributed to William Barber, with thirteen stars around and the date, 1870 below. She supports a shield with her right hand, and holds an olive branch in her left. A scroll crossing the shield is inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse is the same type as was used to coin regular issue Seated Dollars. Struck in silver with a plain edge. This specimen, while modestly hairlined in the distant past, has since toned in pale golden and steel-violet shades that give this impressive pattern an appeal that far surpasses its technical grade.
