<Our item number 140086><B>1870 Micronesian Treaty Signed On Board the &#34;Jamestown&#34;.</B> Contemporary copy of a treaty signed on board the U.S. Steam Sloop &#34;Jamestown&#34; at Roan Kiti Harbor, Island of Ponape, 24 June 1870, between &#34;Nouakui and Chiefs of Roan Kiti&#34; and the resident missionary, E.T. Doune, and witnessed by &#40;Lt. Commander&#41; W. T. Truxtun of the U.S. Navy, 12¼ x 8 in., 1p. The Chiefs agree that land at the mouth of the Roan Kiti River was donated in 1852 by their predecessor, Nanakin, to the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, and they promise to protect the Board &#34;from the aggressions of any and all persons whatsoever trespassing on said Mission lands.&#34; Treaties involving native royalty, especially Micronesian, are exceedingly rare and historically important.
