<B>1870 MS Star of Texas Gaming Chip.</B></I> This is a $20 denomination gaming chip used aboard the <I>U.S.M Packet Star of Texas</B></I> riverboat during the late 19th century. A small accompanying card explains: "This is an authentic Mississippi River Boat Gambling chip used during the mid 1800's. The chip is hand carved walrus ivory."<BR> Packet boats were the steamboats used on the Mississippi river system, carrying both passengers and mail, thus the U.S.M. (U.S. mail) designation. Many of these vessels had their own postmarks. We have been unable to learn any further history of the individual vessel.<BR><I>From The Collection of Louis E.
