1870 H10C PR68 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Since the business strike 1870 often displays bothersome reverse striking softness at the upper left and right of the wreath, proofs would make more desirable additions to Seated Half Dime date sets. For the collector who demands the utmost in technical quality, we proudly present this wholly original Superb Gem. Rich steel-gray toning envelops the reverse and lightens to a cornucopia of electric-blue, lilac, sea-green, and golden-orange colors on the obverse. The depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields is undiminished, especially on the obverse, and there is not a single ill-defined feature or distracting surface blemish. There is a very tiny planchet void (as struck) in the reverse field at the base of the L in HALF--a perfect pedigree marker. This coin is one of only two so graded at NGC, and it is neither surpassed at NGC or PCGS, or matched at the latter service (7/02).From the Philip Kaufman Collection.
