1870 G$1 MS65 PCGS. An attractive example, frosty luster thins to modest, yet appreciable brightness
1870 G$1 MS65 PCGS. An attractive example, frosty luster thins to modest, yet appreciable brightness in the fields. Whispers of powder-blue iridescence intermingle with rich reddish-gold color over both sides. While not completely full, the reverse impression is well above average for the issue with no distracting lack of detail. Random striations (as struck) are noted in the reverse field, and the obverse portrait reveals some wispy distractions under a loupe. Despite a higher mintage (6,300 pieces), the 1870 is equally as rare as the 1871 (3,900 examples produced). Most survivors of both issues are Mint State. Population: 7 in 65, 10 finer (10/02).
