1870-CC 50C --Corroded--ANACS. AU50 Details. In its first year of operation, the Carson City Mint struck three silver denominations: the quarter, half dollar, and dollar. The 1870-CC has a mintage more than double that of the quarter and dollar combined, but the survival rate was remarkably low, particularly when compared with the 1870-CC silver dollar. Apparently, no one, not even local Mint officials or workers, appreciated the significance of the issue sufficiently to set examples aside. As of (5/07), NGC and PCGS have each certified only one piece as Mint State, both as MS62. In terms of sharpness, the present lot is close to Mint State, but the slate-gray surfaces are subdued and granular. The fields have only a few minor marks.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
