1870-CC 25C VF25 PCGS. A single set of dies were employed to produce the 1870-CC Seated quarter. The minuscule mintage of 8,340 pieces is the second lowest in the entire series behind the 1873-CC. However, the 1873-CC is considered non-collectible as most of the mintage was melted shortly after striking and today only 5 examples are known to exist. As such, the 1873-CC is unobtainable by most collectors, and by default the 1870-CC the most challenging regular issue in the Seated quarter series. Breen relates in his Complete Encyclopedia: "CC-mint coins 1870-73 are of great rarity in all grades, because issues were deliberately kept limited for political reasons by official policy emanating from the Philadelphia Mint – which limitation was in turn urged as reason for abolishing the Carson City branch!" For collectors today, the limited production of 1870-CC quarters presents a problem. Unfortunately, that difficulty is exacerbated by the fact that few coins of this issue were saved and all examples known today are well-circulated, save for a solitary MS64 graded by NGC, which is the Eliasberg specimen. This piece shows deep gray-olive toning over both sides with the highpoints only slightly lighter in hue. Even wear on each side, there are a few shallow field marks to the right of Liberty. Population: 4 in VF25, 22 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
