1870-CC $10 XF45 PCGS.
1870-CC $10 XF45 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The premier Ten Dollar issue from the Carson City facility and profound rarity among not only Eagles, but all CC gold issues. Starting with a tiny mintage of 5,908 pieces, attrition has taken its toll on all but a few dozen survivors, nearly all of which grade XF or less. Akers states that "only the famous Double Eagle of the same date surpasses the 1870-CC Eagle as the rarest of all Carson City gold coins." This attractive reddish-golden example is far better struck than the typical '70-CC and, although numerous, there are no overly distracting surface marks. Due to the importance of the offering, we will point out a few milling marks in the lower right obverse field and an abrasion that obliterates a portion of the first C in the mintmark. Always an issue that stirs up great interest among specialists in branch mint gold and Carson City coinage. Population: 5 in 45, 6 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
