1870-CC $10 AU50 PCGS.
1870-CC $10 AU50 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1870-CC eagle is a close second in overall rarity to the much better known 1870-CC double eagle. This is in spite of the fact that six other Carson City eagles have a lower mintage than the 5,908 pieces produced of this issue, clearly attrition took a heavy toll on this date. The '70-CC is also the scarcest CC eagle in terms of high grade rarity with no Mint State pieces known, and the finest example an AU55. This piece is clearly within the Condition Census with four coins listed on the current C.C. as AU50. The striking details on this piece are, unfortunately, substandard for the issue with slight softness seen on Liberty's hair curls as well as indistinct definition on the eagle's plumage. Significant mint luster surrounds the devices and the surfaces have a lovely, subtle overlay of reddish patina. Numerous, small abrasions are scattered over each side, but the overall effect is minimal for a coin that has seen ten points of wear with the most obvious mark located below and to the right of the second S in STATES. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
