<B>1870 $3 AU58 NGC.</B></I> David Bowers, in his <I>United States $3 Gold Pieces,</B></I> estimates that 150 to 225 circulated 1870 three dollar gold coins have survived, and somewhere between 25 and 30 Mint State pieces. NGC/PCGS census/population figures, considering likely resubmissions, more or less corroborate Bowers' estimates. Ample luster remains on peach-gold surfaces of this AU58 specimen, and sharp detail is apparent in the design elements.
