1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-897, Pol
1870<25C> Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-897, Pollock-1004, High R.7, PR65 Brown NGC. Liberty wears a starless tiara. A corn and cotton wreath surrounds the legends 25/CENTS/1870. These dies are usually found in silver format, but this piece is struck in copper with a plain edge. Powder-blue fields and devices are outlined by generous fire-red iridescence. Well struck on the portrait, although the 25 is slightly soft. The surfaces exhibit interesting crystal-like raised striations, which are more prominent on the obverse. NGC has certified only three examples of Judd-897, with just one finer as PR66 Red and Brown (6/06). The sole PCGS-certified piece grades PR64 Brown.
