1870 25C PR67 Deep Cameo NGC. Briggs 2-B. One-thousand proof Seated Liberty quarters were stuck in 1870, a relatively high number for the With Motto type. Likewise, a correspondingly large number of proofs have been certified by NGC and PCGS (totaling about 235 examples). The two services, however, have seen fit to assign the Deep Cameo designation to a mere four coins (6/07), with the piece in this lot representing the finest!
Deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted motifs present breathtaking cameo contrast on both sides of this Superb Gem. Additionally, a powerful strike has imparted razor-sharp definition on the design elements, further enhancing the coin's outstanding eye appeal. Finally, close scrutiny with a glass reveals that untoned, impeccably preserved surfaces are devoid of mentionable marks. 1870 proof quarters were struck from rusted dies (Larry Briggs, The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters 1991), some light evidence of which is visible beneath the eagle's right (left facing) wing. This is a truly super coin that is sure to generate spirited bidding.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
