<B>1870 $2 1/2 MS62 NGC.</B></I> This is an exceptional, semi-prooflike survivor from a very low mintage of just 4,520 pieces. The striking details are very sharp and there are just some very light hairlines in the fields that keep this from a Select grade. The color is a very cheerful apricot-gold and the overall eye appeal is extremely positive. The Garrett-Guth reference on U.S. gold (2006) state that the 1870 two and one half is "a major condition rarity in Mint State." PCGS has graded only a single example finer, and the presently offered lot is tied with another for the finest certified at NGC.
