1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-849, Pollock-956, R.5-6, PR65 PCGS. Ex: Bass. A Standard Silver design that shows a bust of Liberty facing right with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and IN GOD WE TRUST below. The reverse has 10 CENTS and the date in the center, surrounded by a wreath of cotton and corn with STANDARD above. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. A few swirls of medium intensity golden-tan iridescence are seen here and there. Otherwise, the surfaces present as untoned with bright, reflective, silver-white features. Die polish lines (as struck) are seen in the fields, especially under a loupe. This is the plate coin in Andrew W. Pollock's book United States Pattern and Related Issues, figure 321.Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1999), lot 1103, where it realized $1,840. Bass purchased the coin from Joe Flynn, Sr. Coin Co., on August 10, 1971.
