1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Jud
1870<10C> Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-839, Pollock-930, High R.7, PR64 Brown NGC. The obverse features a small bust right of Liberty with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and a scroll with IN GOD WE TRUST below. Liberty wears a cap ornamented with three stars. On the reverse, the denomination 10 CENTS and the date 1870 are crowded within a wreath of cotton and corn. The inscription STANDARD is centered above. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The dies are familiar because of the relatively available silver examples (Judd-837), but copper pieces are extremely rare. Uspatterns.com states, "about a half dozen are known." This well struck and smooth example has noticeable original brick-red color, particularly on the reverse. Most of the obverse has toned deep steel-gray.
