1870 $1 Indian Princess Silver Dollar, Judd-1016, Pollock-1150, Low R.7, PR66 Brown NGC. A seated figure of Liberty faces left on the obverse, wearing a headdress. She is seated next to a globe, with two flags behind. Her left hand rests on the globe and she holds a pole and cap in her right hand. A banner across the globe is inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse is from the regular-issue Seated Liberty dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is James Longacre's famous design, intended as a replacement for Christian Gobrecht's original Liberty Seated design. Longacre died before this design was put into production, and William Barber prepared his own design, but the original Gobrecht design prevailed. This walnut-brown example has excellent eye appeal. The surfaces are smooth and slightly reflective. Both sides are satiny and lustrous rather than deeply mirrored.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
