1869-S $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Since most surviving 1869-S quarter eagles grade XF, it is little wonder that this issue is a noteworthy rarity at AU and Mint State levels. What's more, this issue is among the most poorly produced quarter eagles from the San Francisco Mint. While the present coin is not fully struck, the definition is quite sharp with the exception of the eagle's neck and left (facing) leg feathers. The surfaces are minimally marked for the grade and there is ample mint luster with modest cartwheel effects. One of only 29,500 pieces produced. Census: 8 in 61, 5 finer (11/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
