MARY A. LIVERMORE (1820-1905). American Journalist and Advocate of Women’s Rights. After the Civil War, she devoted herself to the Promotion of Women’s Suffrage and the Temperance Movement, starting her own WCTU Chapter in her hometown of Melrose Massachusetts.
February 10th 1869-Dated, original Handwritten Letter Signed, “Mary A Livermore,” 3 pages, at Chicago. This Letter is addressed to “Bro Adams.” In this Letter Mary Livermore mentions letters that were written from Adams to Mr & Mrs Livermore. These letters spoke of a Case with regards to Charles L Balch. She goes onto state that Charles read these letters to Mary and Her Husband and that, “this is the Most Unveracious Man Ever.” He lied to them about what the letters said and Mary then pushed to make him resign from his post as well as his Ministry. At the end of this Letter she instructs Mr Adams, “Don’t let this get into the papers” and to wait until the story unfolds on its own. Large deep vivid black ink signature, “Mary A Livermore” measures 2.75” long at its conclusion.
