1869 Cincinnati Reds Sheet Music
1869 Cincinnati Reds Sheet Music. The world's first professional baseball team is honored in song by this exceedingly rare sheet music issued just after the close of the Civil War. While our lack of musical training precludes us from commenting on the tune itself, the serious baseball collector will wish to concentrate on the divine visual artistry of the cover instead. At top center is a stirring portrait of early baseball pioneer Harry Wright, with brother and fellow Hall of Famer George at lower left. Pitcher Asa Brainerd shows off his underhanded pitching form and spectacular facial hair in an action portrait at center. Almost fourteen decades of life has taken some toll on the piece, though the wear is restricted almost entirely to the exterior borders, leaving the cover imagery mainly free of faults. The spine is handstitched, likely by the girl named "Lizzie" who penciled her name at the upper right corner well over a century ago. Despite these imperfections, our catalog imagery should back our claim that the piece still carries tremendous visual appeal to match that of its historical relevance.
