1869, "Atlantic Monthly" Magazine containing the story "The Brick Moon" by Edward Everett Hale (famous for his story "Man without a Country"). The author was also related to Edward Hale (his uncle), who gave the "other", longer speech at Gettysburg before Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address and to Nathan Hale, the American patriot who, just before being hung, told the British: "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country". "The Brick Moon" is an interesting story and one that predates the science fiction stories of H.G. Wells by a generation. The magazine is complete with its original paper covers and is in excellent overall condition. A similar copy, but bound, realized over $300 in the Ordway library sale of 1998. It is rare to find an original copy of this story.
