1869/69 1C MS66 Red and Brown NGC. FS-008.3, Snow-3. This variety was once thought to represent an 1869/8, but subsequent research has shown that it is clearly an 1869/69. The repunching is most readily evident above the 9, but it is also discernible within both loops of that digit, as well as on the 6. The present representative is a late die state (as evidenced by the as struck obverse crack from Liberty's lowest hair curls to the denticles before the date), but all of the repunching is still easily seen under a loupe. Glossy textured olive-brown toning and original reddish-orange luster are well blended over sharply impressed features. There are no blemishes of note, and the eye appeal is expectantly strong for the premium quality Gem designation. An exceptional representative of a repunched date variety that Snow (1992) describes simply as "scarce." Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
