<B>1869 $5 AU53 ICG.</B></I> With gold coinage all but out of circulation across the majority of America in the wake of the Civil War, demand for such pieces was small, and Philadelphia's output of half eagles was nominal in those years. A mere 1,760 business strikes were coined in 1869 and very few are known in any grade, but this date is especially rare in AU condition.
