1869 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-735, Pollock-816, R.7,--Double Struck, Rotated in Collar--PR64 Red NGC. A bust of Liberty faces right, with her hair tied in a bun. She wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY; the front of the band has a star. IN GOD WE TRUST is placed on a scroll in the exergue, and 25 CENTS is crowded within a wreath on the reverse. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This pattern was double struck, and the first striking is plainly evident on each side.
Errors on patterns are among the rarest of the rare. We can only remember one other double striking on a pattern, and that was also a Standard Silver pattern. The piece shows a 30 degree rotation between strikes. This is most noticeable on the obverse behind Liberty's head, between the D and S of UNITED STATES and at the top of the 2 in the denomination on the reverse. An outstanding rarity.
Ex: Lenox Lohr (Empire Coin Co.
