1869 1C MS65 Red PCGS. On New Year's Day of 1869, James Barton Longacre passed away suddenly at the age of 75. His Indian Cent design continued for several decades with different Chief Engravers guiding what subtle changes had to be made in the design. William Barber succeeded Longacre in that capacity and served ably for the next ten years until his death in 1879. The 1869 is another low mintage, early issue with only 6.42 million pieces produced. As one would expect, Gems are very elusive and coins with full red color are even more difficult to locate. This piece has rich, even red color over both sides and is fully struck throughout. Die clashing is seen on each side. Population: 25 in 65, 6 finer (1/03).From the Colburn Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
