1869 10C Standard Silver Dime, Judd-696, Pollock-775, R.5, PR64 PCGS. Liberty faces right, wearing a cap with three stars. Around, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and below, a scroll with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse has a wreath of oak and laurel enclosing the denomination 10 CENTS with STANDARD SILVER around and the date below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Housed in a first-generation holder, this lovely proof has light gold and iridescent toning around silver-gray surfaces. A few minor surface marks keep this piece from a higher grade. This is the first Standard Silver pattern, an extensive series spanning various denominations, designs, and years. The Standard Silver concept was a series of coins of reduced weight, intended for redemption of the fractional currency then in circulation. In addition to hundreds of varieties, the Standard Silver reverse dies were also muled with other obverse designs to create even more pattern varieties. The Standard Silver coinage consists of three basic designs that will be identified in the present work as Design A, Design B, and Design C with changes in date and denomination understood within the context of each listing.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
