<B>1869 $10 AU55 NGC.</B></I> A tiny mintage of 1,830 pieces distinguishes the little-heralded 1869 eagle. A New Orleans or Carson City gold issue with a similar mintage and in the same grade would command great sums, but the 1869 is surprisingly affordable given its formidable rarity. This undipped example has a crisp strike, scattered inoffensive marks, and plentiful orange-gold luster.
