<B>1869 $1 MS63 PCGS.</B></I> This date is seldom encountered in Mint State, and business strikes are far rarer than the recorded proof mintage of 600 pieces. Between NGC and PCGS combined, they have certified only 229 business strikes in all grades, despite the recorded mintage of nearly 424,000 pieces. This example shows a bold strike on both sides, with gray-gold surfaces that show a bit of field haze, somewhat diminishing the luster. A small bit of struck-in grease, as made, is noted on the lower reverse. Nonetheless an attractive and rare coin.
