<B>1868 Lincoln $3 Private Pattern, Reeded Edge, Pollock-5105, High R.7, MS64 NGC.</B></I> The 1994 Pollock reference states "The Lincoln motif is attributed to the medalist Joseph H. Merriam, who appears to have been most active as a die engraver in the 1860s." A low relief but well engraved design. Struck in gold with a reeded edge. A smooth semi-prooflike piece with minor striking weakness on the base of the Roman numerals.
