1868 $5 AU50 NGC. Gold coins failed to circulate on the East Coast prior to 1878, since they traded at a premium to unbacked Federal currency. Under such circumstances, the Philadelphia Mint produced minimal quantities of gold coins between 1863 and 1877. For the 1868, just 5,700 pieces were struck for this much better Motto issue. A sharp straw-gold example with noticeable luster and moderately abraded fields.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
