<B>1868 $3 MS61 NGC.</B></I> The 1868 three dollar gold, of which 4,850 circulation strikes were produced, is obtainable in About Uncirculated and in the lower Mint State grades, though the latter often requires an extended search. The MS61 example in the current lot displays peach-gold patina imbued with occasional wisps of orange, and luminous, prooflike fields highlight the motifs. A relatively sharp strike is noted on the design elements, save for softness in some of the Indian's hair curls.
